Today I opened my fridge and realized my Baileys Irish Cream was expiring. Sign #95732 i’m getting old: alcohol is EXPIRING in my fridge. Nuff’ said.
For best ooey gooey french toast results; I would highly recommend soaking the bread in the mixture overnight. You want the french toast to fall apart in your mouth, but remain perfectly fried and crispy on the outside. Also by soaking overnight, you’ll get the full Baileys Cream flavour.
Enjoy the long weekend- happy Easter!
Serves 2 (or 1 really boozy person)
Ingredients:
- 3 pieces of bread (regular, challah, baguette…)
- 1/4 cup milk
- 3 Tbsp Baileys Irish Cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp white sugar
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- butter in pan
Directions:
In large bowl, whisk all ingredients. Add bread one at a time, soaking completely. (For best results: soak overnight in container). Heat large pan on medium heat with butter, and cook each piece of bread about 3-5 minutes each side. Serve with maple syrup, fresh whipped cream, fruit, or mint.
Recommendation:
-I used regular ‘toast’ bread, but if you really want to impress someone, pick up some challah bread.
-If you don’t have Baileys in you fridge, try using apple sauce, chocolate milk, maple syrup, coconut milk & pineapple- the options are endless.

Music: Todays music is from Beach House. It took a while for them to grow on me, but they have… and it was worth the wait. So here’s my favourite song, “Wild”. A great morning song, running song, car song, let’s-make-baileys-irish-toast-song… basically it’s awesome.
Oh my! Sounds fantastic! A great way to incorporate spirit into breakfast. Great post!
Thank you so much, Anne!

I would never have thought of this. Sounds really fun and interesting though. Can you still taste the booze?
You can definitely taste the Baileys (especially if you soak it overnight). I’m happy you like this post… I had a lot of fun coming up with the recipe. 🙂

I’ve made french toast with challah bread before and I can honestly say it was the best french toast I have ever had. I will soon change that however by trying this recipe 😉
love your creativity!
Thank you so much! That comment put a big smile on my face. And totally keep making french toast with Challah… it’s in my opinion, the best way to make the dish.

Oh this is a great idea — I have a large bottle of Bailey’s to use up before it expires too. 🙂 French toast really should be its own food group, don’t you think?
I’m so happy to hear you’re gonna give it a go! I plan on making a stuffed french toast soon! 🙂

This is totally genius! I loooove Bailey’s and I loooove boozy meals that are not dinner. I would have never thought to soak overnight – also I wouldn’t have the patience.
Hi Sasha! It really doesn’t take that long! I think the prep is about 5 minutes- then just put it away in the fridge till’ morning :-). And I love alcohol in my food too… it really just makes everything taste better. And cheese. Cheese too.
Love reading your posts about NYC- it’s really making me feel nostalgic!
